Delegation from Kazakhstan National Grid Visits Shanghai Electric to Explore New Opportunities for Clean Energy Cooperation

On the afternoon of January 27, Mr. Nabi Aitzhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of KEGOC (Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company), led a delegation to the headquarters of Shanghai Electric Group. He met with Mr. Xiao Weihua, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Electric, for in-depth consultations on cooperation in clean energy, smart grids and other fields.

Mr. Aitzhanov noted that Kazakhstan is fully promoting the optimization and transformation of its energy structure, with the strategic goal of increasing the share of renewable energy generation to 50% by 2050. This aligns closely with Shanghai Electric’s core technological strengths in upgrading high-efficiency clean energy, developing new energy projects, and researching green hydrogen production technologies.

As a key hub country under the Belt and Road Initiative, Kazakhstan boasts abundant renewable energy resources, providing a broad platform for follow-up cooperation between the two sides. He emphasized that KEGOC highly values its strategic partnership with Shanghai Electric and expects to further deepen mutual trust and cooperation with Shanghai Electric in multiple areas, including upgrading coal-fired power, expanding energy business, and building smart grids.This cooperation will help strengthen Kazakhstan’s grid security and promote the intelligent upgrading of its power system, while jointly supporting Kazakhstan in becoming an important energy hub connecting Europe and Asia.
